Why It's Better

We are Committed to the Health of your Pet.

Our mission is to offer our customers the best selection of super premium, natural pet foods and re-educate pet owners about what they should feed their dogs and cats.
Everything we sell is of the highest quality standard possible, safe and free of harmful ingredients. If we won’t feed it to our own pets, we won’t sell it.

Quality and Source of Ingredients
We have always talked about the importance of quality and source of ingredients. However, in the wake of the recent recalls the issue of where the product is made and where the ingredients are sourced has become the number 1 issue in selecting a pet food that is safe.

Every manufacturer’s product on our website has been thoroughly researched. We have direct and personal relationships with the manufacturers. With few exceptions, every product we sell is made and sourced in the USA. These exceptions include meats such as lamb and venison from New Zealand as well as chews from grass fed cattle in Brazil. We also sell two lines of exceptional human grade canned food from Thailand, a country that has quality standards equal to or in excess of the US. These lines were brought in after thorough research of their manufacturing process.

The products on our site are all made from Human Grade or Organic ingredients.

We do the research so you can trust that everything you purchase from Chow Foods is a safe and healthy product.

Formulations
The first 5 ingredients in a pet food tell the story. They should be mostly made up of meat based protein and not fillers or grains such as wheat, wheat gluten, corn or soybeans. These ingredients when used in excess are there to falsely bolster the protein levels and not to supply quality digestible protein. Pet food labels are listed in order of weight of ingredient, so the first ingredient is the most dominant in the food and so on. Having 2 or 3 meats in the first 5 ingredients is a way of knowing that the food you are using is not loaded with cheap fillers and contains substantial amounts of meat based protein which is critical for your pet’s health and well-being. See the article Grain in Pet Food

There are many tricks that economy-minded manufacturers use to create the illusion of a healthy food and many things to look out for, but we don’t expect you to have the time to do the research. That’s what we are here for--to be your Trusted Source, talking to the producers and screening each and every thing we sell.

Chemicals and Additives

Food products need to be preserved, in order to be safe. There are natural means of preservation as well as dangerous chemical methods. The products we carry are all preserved naturally. Chemical additives are not safe for your pet. Most manufacturers have recognized this over the last several years and made the switch to natural preservation, however there are still many economy and grocery store brands that preserve their foods chemically in order to prolong shelf life. These foods should always be avoided.

We pride ourselves on being able to help you find the right products for your pets. Talk to one of our product experts today and we will get your pet on the right track to long term health and happiness!

Thank you for allowing us to be your trusted source for safe and healthy pet products.

Guide To Natural Pet Food

When deciding on a new natural pet food, it is important to consider several factors

Freshness – The less processed the better. Like human food, cooking at high temperatures destroys important digestive enzymes and other vital nutrients

Meat – Dogs and Cats are carnivores so it’s imperative their main protein source is meat.

Raw Food is the best. It’s the way your pet was meant to eat. Some people don’t feel comfortable feeding raw, but if you research some case studies you might change your mind.

*Grains, especially overly processed grains found in many “big brand” commercial dog foods, are an inferior source of protein. Many weight, kidney, and allergy problems can be cleared with a grain-free diet.

Fruit & Vegetables – They contain a wide array of beneficial vitamins and antioxidants. Only feed cats small amount of produce as they are almost exclusively carnivores,

Variety – It is a good idea to feed your pet different protein sources. Try rotating different flavors and brands. We even have homemade mixes if you like to make homemade pet food. Feeding your pet one pet food all the time is like eating Cheerios everyday of your life. Not every meal has to be perfectly balanced. Feeding a variety of healthy meals will create balance throughout the course of a week

Supplements – The majority of our pet foods contain healthful ingredients, but you can add supplements to maintain overall health or target specific problems. Fish Oil is always good to add to your pet’s food. A Multivitamin and digestive enzymes are good daily options. For more specific physical issues like joint problems, skin conditions and emotional issues like aggression, you can add a supplement or herbal remedy to your daily routine.
